Datacenters may be grown-up multiple times their current capacity with the Sun Fire X4600 server family's unequaled scalability and broad virtualization choices, while energy maintenance costs are kept low, resulting in a higher return on investment.

The modular design of the server lowers the total cost of ownership by allowing future processing and memory technologies to be upgraded.

Dual Dynamic Power Management (Split-plane CPU modules only.) per-processor power management that can reduce idle power consumption.

8 Mbit flash EEPROM with LPC interface
