The Juniper Networks MX10004 Universal Routing Platform stands out as the most compact, high-density, and power-efficient modular router within the MX10000 line of packet-routing transport routers. With a minimal height of only 7 U, the MX10004 is purpose-built for today's space-constrained facilities. Despite its smaller form factor, the MX10004 shares the capabilities of its larger counterparts, supporting Juniper Networks' 400-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) architecture with inline Media Access Control Security (MACsec) on all ports for enhanced security on Ethernet links. Offering modular solutions ranging from 1-Gigabit Ethernet to 400-Gigabit Ethernet, the MX10004 achieves a remarkable throughput of up to 38.4 terabits per second (Tbps).

The router ensures redundancy and resiliency through its power system and Routing Control Board (RCB). With a compact 7-U modular chassis, the MX10004 facilitates ease of deployment in sites with limited space or power, featuring a modular and flexible design that utilizes custom silicon line cards and power supplies from the larger MX10000 chassis. Engineered with full hardware redundancy, the MX10004 ensures an always-on infrastructure base, enabling service providers to meet stringent service-level agreements across the core.

Additionally, the Junos OS operating system supports nondisruptive software upgrades, with high availability features such as graceful Routing Engine switchover (GRES) and nonstop active routing (NSR). This 7-U tall router can be installed in a standard 42-U rack, accommodating up to six MX10004 routers with proper cooling and power provisions.
