With integrated 1GbE and 10GbE uplinks, the Cisco Catalyst 4500X Switch series provides a power-efficient Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) network-access switching solution. The switches provide the catalyst family with a low-cost, compact, and scalable solution with professional-level performance and capabilities. The Catalyst 4500-X series switches' data rate of up to 800 Gbps (full duplex) and a forwarding rate of up to 250 Mpps contribute to performance assurance.

In order to use their investment in 1 Gigabit Ethernet SFP and upgrade to 10 Gigabit Ethernet when business demands change, customers can use the Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus (SFP+) interface, which supports both 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports. This eliminates the need to perform a thorough upgrade of the current deployment. Hot swappable uplink modules are available.
