The Oracle StorageTek SL8500 Modular Tape Library has a highly scalable environment with up to more than 3,200,000 tape cartridge slots under a single pane of management allowing customers to store 57.6 EB of uncompressed data for high-performance computing, big data, and cloud environments. The StorageTek SL8500’s centerline design reduces access latency to customers’ backups and archives because robots travel one-third to one-half the distance of those on competitive libraries.

Oracle StorageTek SL8500 Modular Tape Library Specifications:

The new features of the Oracle StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System include an increase in scalable capacity from 70,000 to 100,000 tape slots, redundant electronics and support for LTO-5 tape drives.

Support for the LTO-5 format brings to the SL8500’s total capacity to 150PB, which can be achieved by linking 10 SL8500 libraries and managing them as a single system, according to Tom Wultich, director of Oracle’s Corporate Tape Product Management Group.
