For dense scale-out data center computing and storage, the PowerEdge R640 is the appropriate dual-socket platform. To ensure optimized application performance in a secure platform, take use of the flexibility of 2.5" or 3.5" disks, the optimizing performance of NVMe, and integrated intelligence.

Dell's PowerEdge R640 server platform is a dual-socket server architecture designed for dense software-defined storage, application tier service providers, dense private cloud, virtualization, and high-performance computing (HPC). The PowerEdge R640 was released in 2017 and stood out for being well suited for a variety of users.

The PowerEdge R640 system supports up to two AC or DC power supply units (PSUs). NOTE If system with 1100 W AC or HVDC PSU operates from 100 to 120V, the power rating per PSU is derated to 1050 W. NOTE If system with 1600 W PSUs operates from 100 to 120 V, then the power rating per PSU is derated to 800 W.

The iDRAC is a piece of hardware that sits on the server motherboard and allows System Administrators to upgrade and administer Dell servers even when they are switched off. Administrators can also execute remote management operations using the iDRAC's web interface and command line interface.
